Diagnostic Evaluation
For adults, an initial diagnostic evaluation is scheduled for two hours. During the initial part of the session, Dr. Zimnitzky will discuss with you what led you to come see him as well as how he can be of help. He will then gather a detailed history exploring areas such as previous mental health treatment, past medical history as well as your current symptoms. At the end of the session, he will provide his initial impressions and discuss with you an initial treatment plan. There will also be adequate time devoted to answering all your questions. As part of a diagnostic assessment, he will also contact your other treatment providers.
For children and adolescents, the initial diagnostic evaluation is also scheduled for two hours. During the initial part of the session, Dr. Zimnitzky will meet with the parents and child/adolescent together to discuss initial questions/concerns. He will then explain what will occur during the remaining part of the session. Dr. Zimnitzky finds it important to meet with the parents and the child/adolescent separately. By doing this, everyone is given the opportunity to be comfortable sharing information. At the end of the session, Dr. Zimnitzky brings everyone together to discuss his impressions, develop an initial treatment plan and answer questions. Dr. Zimnitzky will also be speaking with your child’s other treatment providers.
